The Split to Hvar ferry is the single most-booked Croatian island crossing of the summer. You actually have two completely different boats: a fast passenger catamaran direct to Hvar Town (1 hour, walk straight off into the bars on the Riva) or a slower car ferry that lands at Stari Grad on the far side of the island, 20 km from Hvar Town.
Almost every first-time visitor books the wrong boat. If you're a foot passenger and want to be in Hvar Town that day, you want the Krilo Jet or Jadrolinija catamaran — one hour, drops you in the old harbour. If you're driving, you have no choice: it's the Stari Grad car ferry, then a 25-minute drive over the island's spine into Hvar Town. The catamaran sells out 5–10 days ahead in peak season; do not show up at the port at 9 am in July expecting to get on the next boat. There is also a daily TP Line catamaran continuing Hvar → Korčula → Dubrovnik if you're island-hopping south.

Typical schedule
Schedules vary by season — confirm tomorrow's exact departures on the live results page.
Arrival in Hvar
Catamarans dock on Hvar Town's Riva — 30 seconds' walk to the old town, restaurants and apartment owners waiting with luggage carts. The car ferry lands at Stari Grad port; a connecting Cazmatrans bus to Hvar Town leaves 15 minutes after every arrival, €4.
When to go
Boats run year-round but the catamaran timetable triples between May and October. June and September are the sweet spot: warm water, full schedule, half the crowd of August.
