Slovenia

Alpine Slovenia: the Bled-and-Triglav country that runs like Switzerland at Balkan prices.

Slovenia is the most expensive, most organised, and arguably greenest country in the region. Ljubljana is a 2-hour bus from Zagreb; Lake Bled is 1 hour onwards from Ljubljana. Direct coaches connect Ljubljana with Trieste, Venice and Munich.

Slovenia is in the EU, Eurozone and Schengen. Buses and trains run on time. The country is small enough to see in 4–5 days: Ljubljana (1 night), Bled and Bohinj (2 nights), Triglav National Park / Vintgar Gorge, then a swing through the coast at Piran or onwards to Italy.
