We're locals who got tired of bad Balkan travel advice.

BalkanTourGuide was built in Serbia by a small team that has spent two decades crossing every Balkan border by bus, van, train, ferry and the occasional questionable shared minivan.

The big OTAs (Online Travel Agencies) don't care about cross-border routes between Niš and Sofia or Tirana and Kotor. The local-language operator sites are great but invisible to English-speaking travellers. We bridge that gap: real, current, opinionated information in English, with a one-click booking layer powered by our partners.

What we do

  • · Aggregate 600+ bus, van and ferry routes across 11 Balkan & European countries.
  • · Write honest travel guides for the routes we use ourselves.
  • · Recommend the travel insurance we personally carry (SafetyWing).

How we make money

Affiliate commissions from Bookaway (transport), GetYourGuide (tours) and SafetyWing (insurance). Your price never changes — the partner pays us a small cut when you book through our links. We never accept payment to push specific operators or recommend insurance we wouldn't use.

Editorial standards

Every route and destination page is reviewed by someone on the team who has actually travelled it within the last 12 months. We update guides at the start of every season. Got something wrong? Tell us.
