How to get there

Three realistic options. Pick by budget and how much you value sleep.

  • Night bus (€18–€28): leaves Belgrade BAS station around 19:00–21:00, arrives Budva 06:00–08:00. Cheapest and saves a night's accommodation. Bring a neck pillow and earplugs.
  • Shared van (€25–€40): smaller groups, door-to-door pickup, ~6–7 hours. Faster border crossings than a 50-seat bus.
  • Private transfer (€180–€260 for up to 3): door-to-door, you set the schedule. Best if you're traveling with kids or lots of luggage.

Borders & paperwork

You'll cross from Serbia into Montenegro. EU, UK, US, AU, CA passport holders don't need a visa for stays under 90 days. Carry your passport on your lap — drivers collect them and hand them to police at the border.

  • Border wait: 20–60 min in summer, can hit 2h on peak weekends.
  • Don't carry more than €10,000 cash without declaring it.
  • If you rented a car in Serbia, you need a green card extension for Montenegro — confirm with the rental company before you leave.

Once you arrive

Budva Old Town is a 15-minute walk from the main bus station. Most apartments will collect you for free if you message ahead. Taxis to nearby Bečići or Sveti Stefan run €5–€15.
